This week there was a jumping night on at the yard, this is basically a relaxed format schooling night you can enter what ever height you want and pay to do a few rounds. So you could do a round of the 70cm and a round of the 80cm or do two of the 80cm it is very flexible and you can go in with an instructor helping you if you wanted. There is also a pizza van! After informing my boyfriend that there would be pizza at the night he encouraged me to enter.
We arrived slightly later than normal and Eva put her ears flat back at me and scolded me for this but she was quickly contented with being tied up next to and munching from the bail while I quickly mucked out and filled her nets. During this time I sent my boyfriend down to put our orders in for the pizza.
After a very tasty pizza it was time to walk the course, it was a very very quiet night so in a gap between riders I could go in and walk the course. I had watched a few riders go round so knew the course but I always walk the course nonetheless.
We entered two rounds of the 80cm with the idea being go in jump it, think what could of been done better, then on the next round attempt to excute.
In the end we basically provided the perfect example of when I sit like a potato and get nervous and when I put my leg on and actually ride.
I have made a basic outline of the course below with the double lines being spreads.
Betweem 2 to 3 should be 5 strides. On the first round Eva squeezed in a 6th and awkwardly scrambled over 3. On the second round we jumped no. 2 and I rode towards no.3 and we got 5 strides making it a much better jump.
It is the same from 9 to 10, it should be 4 strides but we squeezed in that additional cheeky stride making it 5. I have two clips of me jumping 9 to 10 have a look and see my strides.
Example 1: Me sitting like a potato. Eva squeezes in an extra stride and makes the second jump awkward. She also doesn quite lock on to the jumo until very last mintue.
Example 2. I put my leg on and push for four strides. The second jump is so much smoother.
In our jumping I need to push for the strides I want and keep forward inbetween the jumps not just on our way up to one …and for it not to take until the second round to do so. But we are both srill very much learning how to ride a course of jumps instead of one off jumps.
Overall Eva was very good and did what I asked and I am very pleased with her. But with that being said we have a lot to work on before pushing the jumps up higher.
Have any of you guys entering any jumping nights recently ? How did it go ?
