Halloween Fun Show – I fell off!! ๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ‘ป

RossettesIn a bit of a spur of the moment I decided to enter the Halloween fun show jumping classes on Saturday!

As much as I could of dressed up which I was thinking on doing I decided to go in competition gear.ย  Before you say anything I have two reasons for this. Firstly if you have read my blog for a while you perhaps could predict Evas reaction to having something flapping stuck to her… yeah you would be safer at a rodeo. Secondly I didn’t give myself enough time. I originally thought that I would buy a skeleton t-shirt or something and ok it would be a bit on the minimal side but at least flapping would be kept to a minimum. However after hunting through the clothes in two big super markets a few nights before I came up with nothing! I did debate for a short amount of time if I could squeeze myself into a boys 14-years skeleton t-shirt but decided that I didn’t want to accidentally do a hulk half way through my round.

So competition gear it was.

Our first class was the accumulator, jump as many jumps as possible in 1.5 minutes, knock a fence and you wont get points for it and you cant jump it again. The joker is the highest jump and will be worth the most. It was very fun and we came home with a forth, the competitive part of me thinks we could of done better if only we hadn’t knocked the joker the second time we jumped it but oh well Eva enjoyed herself and practically took us towards the next jump she could see plus there was lots of decorations to look at which didn’t faze her at all.

When getting the rosette the guy handing them to the riders asked if he should put it on Evas bridle. I looked at Eva and she was glaring wide eyed at the rosettes in his hands. “No thanks I’ll just take that” I said as Eva snorted.

The next class was chase me charlie, we have all played it at some point right ? The aim of the game is basically who can jump the highest – a mini puissance if you like. Two jumps, one is a practice jump which stays at a reasonable height – in this case 85cm – and the other goes up after each round. You have to clear both jumps to stay in the game.

Only four people entered including myself so we all went in to the ring ready to start. I was first to go and we popped both jumps fine. After a few rounds one of the girls horses knocked the practice jump and was out. The jump went up to 1.15m/1.20m and we cleared it!! Which I was incredibly happy with!

You can’t see it but that is us clearing it! **

The next round came and the height was up again, they said to 1.20m but I think I was closer to 1.30m (Especially when I look at the screenshot of a video, that one of the woman at the yard took, considering the top of the jump wings is 1.50m ).

As we headed up to it my heart wasn’t in it (quite frankly I was s***ing myself) and I was slightly hoping for Eva to help me out. When it comes to a jump of this height, this is were Eva doesn’t have the experience and I should be helping her out. It is our glass ceiling we both should be helping each other to clear these jumps but aren’t confident enough to know how to help. In a way she did help me. She refused but not a nasty duck out the side and gallop off refusal. More of a “Not today mum, I’ll just put you down here” Of course there was gasps from the audience and someone came running over as I stood up brushed myself off and gave Eva a pat telling her its alright, I knew I asked too much.

Its a big feckin’ jump! **

Eva looked at me reproachfully I could tell she was sorry that she couldn’t do it. I was absolutely fine and just wished I had read the signs a little better and called it a day before attempting the jump. So I gave her a good pat and we walked over to watch the rest.

The last two girls in the round both cleared it and then decided that they were pulling out so I was quite glad that I made it to the last round and I was very very pleased with her jumping overall that day.

I am really pleased with how Eva went and I am looking forward to the next jumping show we go for!

** Sorry for the quality of the jumping screenshots my trusty cameraman /boyfriend couldn’t make it and I had to rely on others to be taking pictures.

    1. It is isnt it! Its the gasps I hate. Its my second time falling at a show the last time I did a fairly spectacular cartwheel and landed on my feet! Unfortunately it wasn’t the case this time, but at least I was unhurt.

  2. I totally love your thoughts on the refusal! This should be the standard way to go: realise when a challenge was too hard, simply move forward and keep improving ๐Ÿ™‚ There is really no space for anger or unhappiness.
Hugs to you and Eva, and best of luck for your next jumping show!

  3. Good for you. You maintained your sense of humor and no real damage was done. I think the gasps always come out until the rider is seen to be ok. And btw I don’t know how many times I went head first into a jump or a jump standard, or a log bank or ….well the list goes on. That is why at my advanced age I no longer jump. So keep at it and keep telling us how it goes. Bravo!

    1. Its a great game ๐Ÿ˜Š I love it because you end up jumping higher than you normally would but the option to pull out is always there. It was great ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks for commenting.
